Painting with Confidence
An Approach to Loving Your Art -- Painting Class with Katlyn
Katlyn Wyllie is a graphic designer from Charlotte and a lifelong painter, writer, and expression artist. After teaching artists and non-artists alike how to paint at a "Drink & Paint" establishment, she noticed how people new to painting disliked their work to the point of utter discouragement. In this class, Katlyn will describe how each artist is different by means of motor skills and, most importantly, perspective. Learn to see and appreciate the work that you make with just a simple change in your perspective of your own art.
Faery Communication & Guided Meditation
(Inspired by Laura Daligan of the UK) Learn a bit about the history of the Faery in the United States and how they like to communicate with humans. Virginia has a long history with the fae and many spirits who have lived here since before humans came to be. After learning and sharing experiences there will be a guided meditation with drum to meet a faery guide, and go on a journey into their world!
Intro to Belly Dance with Na'la
Open to beginners up to intermediate.
Belly Dance is an expressive dance which emphasizes complex movements of the shoulders, arms, hands, ribs and hips. Originally a Middle Eastern folk dance, it has evolved to take many different forms depending on the country and region, both in costume and dance style. New styles have spread from the Middle East to the whole world! In this class Na’la will teach a variety of movements aimed at beginners, but can easily be modified to challenge intermediate students. We will cover four movement families; the percussive/staccato family, the fluid/circular family, the shimmy family, and traveling steps, all of which can be found in any style of belly dance. The goal of this class is to spend some time getting more familiar with our bodies, getting in touch with the rhythm of the song, and to enjoy the company of our fellow classmates!
How do you Pick a Wand?
Badley Hamza started carving wands from his local landscape as a way to relax. Through his passion for nature and the forms it can create, he wanted to focus on something simple and powerful. He collects branches that have positive vibrations, carves off the bark, and dries them into wands.
Bradley has brought a bucket full of hand picked wands to share with you! Customize your wand with markers, ribbons, and trinkets!
Intro to POI with Na'la
Open to all ages!
"POI" is the Maori word for "ball" on a cord. The POI was used by the indigenous Maori people of New Zealand to increase their flexibility and strength in their hands and arms, as well as improve coordination. The beauty and joy of poi has traveled all over the world, where people have creatively added fabric, LED lights and even Kevlar wicks that can be lite on fire! Na'la will teach you the POI basics like “Reels” “The Weave” and “Butterfly”, so you can begin your poi dance journey. Be prepared to be challenged and have fun swinging things around your body! Need poi? Na’la will have practice poi available (limited to 18 sets), but feel free to bring your own.
